Detoxification, commonly referred to as Detox, is when the body rids itself of drugs or alcohol in the system when drug use or alcohol consumption stops. Everyone experiences detox in different ways, often depending on the type of substance, and how long it was being used. Other factors such as age, genetics, preexisting medical or mental health conditions can also impact detox.
At Comprehensive Healthcare, individuals experiencing detox may receive assistance from substance use treatment professionals while they stabilize by going to the Crisis Triage Center. This process is called withdrawal management, where symptoms are monitored and individuals are put in touch with other substance use services, to assist them through recovery.
